Privacy Policy

Effective Date: February 6, 2026 | Last Updated: February 6, 2026

Our Privacy Philosophy

At Praecepta, we believe that deep learning should not come at the cost of personal privacy. Our mission is to help students master complex subjects through AI tutoring while maintaining the highest standards of data stewardship.

Our Core Principles:

  • Data Minimization: We only collect what is necessary for your learning
  • No Data Sales: We do not, and will never, sell your personal data
  • User Control: You can access, export, and delete your data at any time
  • Transparency: We clearly explain what we collect and why

Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect:

  • Name: To personalize your learning experience
  • Email address: For account management and important notifications
  • Date of birth: To comply with age requirements (COPPA)
  • Learning interests: To customize your tutoring sessions

Retention: Until you delete your account

Learning Interactions

During tutoring sessions, we collect:

  • Questions and messages: Your conversations with the AI tutor
  • Tutor responses: The AI's educational explanations
  • Canvas creations: Diagrams, notes, and visual elements you create
  • Session metadata: Topics discussed, session duration, timestamps

Retention: Until you request deletion

Voice Data

If you enable voice mode, we process:

  • Voice transcriptions: Text converted from your speech (we do NOT store raw audio files)

How it works: When you press and hold the microphone button, your speech is recorded and sent to our self-hosted transcription service (running on our own infrastructure). Only the resulting text is stored — raw audio is discarded after transcription. The AI tutor's spoken responses are synthesized from text using our self-hosted TTS system. No voice data is sent to third-party speech services.

Future capabilities: We may introduce voice-based emotion and prosody analysis (e.g., detecting confusion from tone) to improve tutoring responsiveness. If we do, we will update this policy and notify you before any such data is collected.

Your control: You can use text-only mode at any time. You can delete all voice-related data from your account settings.

Retention: Until you request deletion

Usage Metadata

To improve our service, we collect:

  • Session duration and frequency
  • Features used
  • Technical performance data (response times, errors)

Retention: Anonymized after 90 days

What We Do NOT Collect

  • Raw audio recordings (only text transcriptions)
  • Financial information (payment card numbers, bank accounts)
  • Government IDs (Social Security numbers, passport numbers)
  • Location data beyond general region
  • Browsing activity on other websites

  • Improve our AI: Use aggregated, anonymized data to enhance tutoring quality
